So who are we and what are some of our strengths?
East Otago High School is a co-educational Year 7 - 13 school with a stable roll of approximately 200 students. The school has a strong reputation for providing a sound education, where students are given a wide range of opportunities to develop as well rounded young adults ready for their place in society.
We pride ourselves on:
-
Small classes
Instead of 30 in a class, EOHS has classes ranging from 5 - 15 students in Year 11 - 13 classes, and 15 - 20 in Years 7 - 10. This means more individual attention, as well as the opportunity to shine and be recognised. -
Subject choice
All mainstream NCEA subjects from Levels 1 - 3 are offered at EOHS, with excellent results. High academic stretch targets are set each year in order to extend student achievement. -
Facilities
EOHS offers extremely high quality facilities, including modern computer suites, a superb swimming pool, gymnasium complex and a video conferencing suite. -
Staff
At EOHS staff take a keen interest in the students, creating a family atmosphere built around empathy, caring and respect. Close, well established connections with the community is a strength of the school. -
Outdoor Education
A strong outdoor education programme looks to build skills and qualities outside the classroom. This includes trips to the Glenorchy Lodge in the Queenstown district, a facility owned by the school. -
Participation
Students become involved in a very wide range of activities, both sporting and cultural, where they are often recognised with representation at a provincial level. -
Leadership
Opportunities are numerous and encouraged. Students highly developed skills that are recognised by prospective employers. Opportunities include: Head students, house leaders, sports captains, peer support and many, many more. -
Scholarships
EOHS has a wonderful track record, with a high percentage of students receiving scholarships for tertiary study. Because of our size more students are able to tape into the many bursaries/scholarship on offer. -
Careers, Gateway & Work Experience
Students are given the opportunity to begin working towards qualifications in their chosen career paths while having the advantages of still being at school. -

Why make your son or daughter travel up to 2 hours every day when EOHS can offer more and it is right on your doorstep!
