East Otago High School is a co-educational Year 7 - 13 State Secondary School, situated in Palmerston, Otago. Positioned approximately halfway between Dunedin and Oamaru, the school has a reputation for providing a sound education where students are given a wide range of opportunities to develop as well rounded young adults whilst in a family atmosphere.

The Board of East Otago High School have made a firm commitment to keep class sizes small, meaning students receive closer individual attention and have the opportunity to shine and have their achievements recognised. It is not uncommon for students at the school to lead very busy lives as they often end up participating in a number of sports or cultural teams as well as a multitude of other activities.

The school’s philosophy is based around relationships, built on the values of empathy, caring and respect. Teachers at the school pride themselves on patience, perseverance and a belief in the student. EOHS also believes strongly in self responsibility with the students constantly being encouraged to accept responsibility for their own actions and outcomes.

East Otago High School promotes excellence in all facets of life, whether it be academic, sporting or cultural. Our teachers are dedicated to maximising opportunities for our students that see them move on from school into all walks of life.

Rigorous processes of self review ensure that we are constantly seeking to improve the way that we do things, always with the student as the focus.

Due to its size, and the dedication of its staff, the school has a real “family feel”. Teachers know every student in the school, their family circumstances as well as their individual needs, promoting the concept of “SMALL BUT PRECIOUS - Ahakoa he iti, he pounamu”.
